His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has reiterated his dedication to enhancing Liberia's presence in Europe, aligning with the desires of its citizens. During a meeting with the Liberian community in Rome, President Boakai highlighted the significance of an educated workforce for national progress.
Addressing the community on Tuesday, he acknowledged the efforts made by Liberians pursuing education abroad. "The Government’s role is to keep a watchful eye on Liberians wherever they are. We are proud of the sacrifices you are making in furthering your education, and we are committed to ensuring that Liberia becomes a place you want to return to, to help move our country forward," stated President Boakai.
With about 5,000 Liberians living in Italy, many as students, there is a shared interest in returning home after completing their studies. The community expressed optimism about creating favorable conditions for their return.
President Boakai assured that his administration would strive to create an environment appealing not only to returning Liberians but also to foreign nationals. He emphasized that countries might be more willing to issue visas if they trust students will return post-study.
Madam Fatu Tunkarah, President of the Liberian Community in Italy, conveyed her group's readiness to aid Liberia's development and pointed out challenges related to immigration status regularization.
To address these issues, President Boakai announced plans to appoint an Ambassador to Italy soon. This step aims at strengthening relations within Europe and providing support for immigration matters. "I am committed to ensuring that Liberia has a diplomatic mission here in Rome, and we hope to appoint an Ambassador soon," he reassured.
The President encouraged ongoing collaboration with the Liberian Embassy for resolving immigration concerns and contributing towards Liberia's future growth.
