His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has received an Honorary Fellowship from the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists. This recognition was in acknowledgment of his leadership and contribution to human capital development in Sierra Leone.

During the awarding ceremony, Mr. Alhaji Mutada Sesay, President of the College, lauded President Bio for his dedication to improving the healthcare system and human capital in the region. Mr. Sesay remarked, “Your Excellency, the honour we are about to bestow upon you today is well deserved. It is a recognition not only of your achievements but also an inspiration for many to follow your footsteps now and in the future.”

The College’s decision to honor President Bio was influenced by his government's effective response to the Kush drug crisis in 2024, which was declared a Public Health Emergency. This decisive action highlighted his commitment to social development.

Professor Ibrahim Oreagba, the Secretary-General of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists, stressed the global importance of the Honorary Fellowship, which is awarded to leaders who have made significant contributions to public health and human development. “It is now my singular honour and privilege to robe His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, as an Honorary Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists,” Prof. Oreagba stated.

In his response, President Bio expressed his appreciation for the award, saying, “I accept this honour with immense gratitude. It places a moral obligation on me to continue doing more for the people of Sierra Leone.” He reaffirmed his commitment to the Free Health Care Initiative and highlighted the importance of integrating health, education, and nutrition as part of national development strategies.

The West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists is a regional organization drawing members from across the continent. Its Annual General Meeting involves evaluating state leaders’ contributions, culminating in such recognitions as the one bestowed upon President Bio.
