Nigerian Economic Society president meets with ECOWAS commissioner in Abuja

Professor Adeola Adenikinju, President of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), and Mr. Solomon Terkura Mathew, Head of the NES Secretariat, visited Professor Nazifi Abdullahi Darma, Commissioner for Internal Services at the ECOWAS Commission, in Abuja on April 4, 2025.

During their meeting, Professor Darma shared details about his professional background and presented on the role and structure of ECOWAS. He specifically focused on the Department of Internal Services, which he manages.

Professor Adenikinju spoke of his academic experiences and the NES's contributions to Nigeria's economic policies. He emphasized NES's history as the oldest professional association in Nigerian social sciences since its founding in 1957. Professor Adenikinju thanked Commissioner Darma for promoting sound economic policy and for his role as an ambassador for the NES. He mentioned achievements under his leadership, such as revitalizing state chapters, constructing a national secretariat in Abuja, and planning the September 2025 NES conference.

Professor Darma praised Professor Adenikinju for his efforts in enhancing the NES. He promised support to the organization and shared strategies to boost NES's role in Nigerian economic policymaking.
