ECOWAS Vice-President Office begins retreat to enhance internal capabilities in Niger State

The Office of the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission started a four-day staff retreat at Zuma Rock Resort in Niger State, Nigeria. The retreat, taking place from April 2 to 5, 2025, is aimed at improving internal coordination and effectiveness among staff members from various directorates and units.

The event opened with sessions led by Mr. Musa Gbogboto, Director of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Dr. Onyinye Nkechi Onwuka, Director of Early Warning. They highlighted the goals of the retreat, focusing on alignment, collaboration, and performance.

Dr. Onwuka shared key outcomes from the previous OVP staff retreat, underlining the importance of continuity, reflection, and institutional learning. Another notable presentation was delivered by Mr. Raouf Salami, Executive Assistant to the Vice-President, who discussed the office's structure, functions, and current projects.

New staff members were welcomed, and the retreat agenda was outlined, including expected outcomes. Mr. Ruben Johnson from Human Capital Development spoke on effective team-building skills, setting the stage for planned activities concentrating on teamwork and trust.

The day featured a SWOT analysis exercise for the Office of the Vice-President, where participants engaged in breakout sessions to discuss institutional strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The group presentations that followed were instrumental in establishing shared priorities and strategies for improvement.

The retreat will continue over the next three days with further team-building activities, directorate presentations, and collaborative planning sessions focused on unity, accountability, and operational excellence.
