St Helena's only secondary school has announced a new name: St Helena Secondary School. This change follows a student-led initiative that began in February 2025. The project aimed to celebrate the school's identity, honor its role within the community, and enhance its international presence.

Students were encouraged to propose new names for the school. The Student Council then shortlisted these suggestions, ensuring they aligned with the school's values, heritage, and future goals. A whole-school vote was conducted to finalize the name, allowing all students to contribute to shaping their school's identity.

The chosen name reflects the school's connection to St Helena and its commitment to serving both local and international communities as a center of learning and opportunity.

The transition to the new name will be phased in over several months. Changes such as updated signage, uniforms, stationery, and digital presence will be gradually introduced. The full transition is expected by September 2026.

Chief Minister Julie Thomas commented on this development but her specific remarks were not included in this report.
