ECOWAS economic department sets direction in Niger State retreat

The ECOWAS Commission's Department of Economic Affairs and Agriculture concluded a strategic retreat from April 7 to 9, 2025, at Zuma Rock in Niger State, Nigeria. The retreat focused on assessing achievements, strengthening coordination, and setting strategic priorities for the coming years. Participants included the Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mrs. Massandjé TOURE-LITSE, along with directors, technical experts, and support staff from various directorates and specialized agencies.

Key discussions aimed to align departmental initiatives with the broader ECOWAS Vision 2050 and the 4×4 Strategic Objectives, which cover governance, peace and security, economic integration, connectivity, and social inclusion. The retreat also reviewed achievements from 2022 to 2024 and evaluated work plans for 2025 to 2026. Focus was also placed on preparations for the 50th Anniversary of ECOWAS and the Summit of the Future.

The sessions included presentations of key activities from each directorate, alongside experience-sharing on challenges and best practices. There were strategic discussions on resource mobilization and coordination. The event aimed to develop recommendations to improve implementation, coherence, and impact.

Key outcomes included better alignment of departmental activities with institutional goals, enhanced collaboration across directorates, and a commitment to achieving results that support regional integration and economic development in the ECOWAS Region.
