The ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mrs. Massandjé TOURE-LITSE, recently visited Dr. Jumoke ODUWOLE, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment of Nigeria. This meeting took place as part of the preparation for the fourth joint meeting of ECOWAS Ministers of Trade and Industry (ECOMOTI), which is scheduled for May 2025.
During the visit, Commissioner TOURE-LITSE expressed congratulations to Dr. ODUWOLE on her recent appointment. She emphasized ECOWAS' commitment to strengthening collaboration with Nigeria, especially given the strategic importance of Dr. ODUWOLE's role in Nigeria's economic development.
Key topics discussed included the preparations for the ECOMOTI meeting, currently under Nigeria's rotating presidency. The need for all ECOWAS member states to align their positions before upcoming international trade meetings, such as those with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), was also addressed.
Additionally, Commissioner TOURE-LITSE shared news about an upcoming Conference on Trade, Investment and Economic Diversification, slated for Lagos, Nigeria, as part of ECOWAS' 50th-anniversary celebrations. The Minister expressed her support for the initiative and requested timely communication to facilitate full participation from her Department.
