Sierra Leone president discusses nuclear techniques with IAEA

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio held a bilateral meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, on Monday, June 24, 2024. During the meeting, President Bio expressed optimism about utilizing nuclear techniques to accelerate development results in Sierra Leone.

The discussions centered around leveraging nuclear technology for various developmental goals. President Bio highlighted the potential benefits of these technologies in areas such as healthcare and agriculture.

This meeting follows recent engagements by President Bio aimed at securing international support for Sierra Leone's development agenda. On Friday, June 21, 2024, he secured USD $800 million in pledges from international development and financial institutions during a high-level event at the State Lodge in Hill Station, Freetown.

Earlier this month, on Sunday, June 16, 2024, President Bio and First Lady Fatima Maada Bio attended this year’s thanksgiving and patronal celebration at St. Anthony Parish in Brookfields, Freetown.
