Earlier today, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia met with the new High Commissioner of the Organisation pour la mise en valeur du fleuve Gambie (OMVG), Mr. Demba A. Jallow, and his team at the State House in Banjul. The meeting was a gesture of gratitude from the OMVG delegation to President Barrow for nominating Mr. Jallow to the position and to seek his guidance in their new roles.
During the meeting, President Barrow expressed his pleasure at The Gambia's assumption of the High Commissioner position and highlighted the significance of advancing the OMVG's agenda, which is essential for African integration. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the OMVG electricity project, from which member states benefit, and stressed the importance of ensuring its sustainability.
President Barrow also showed optimism regarding the water component of the OMVG. He noted its potential role in enhancing rice cultivation, which could contribute to food self-sufficiency and help stabilize the cost of living in the region.
In response, the OMVG team assured the President of their dedication to working diligently for the benefit of the member states. The Honourable Minister for Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change accompanied Mr. Jallow and his team during the visit to the State House.
