The President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, recently inaugurated a new office complex for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources in Abuko. The event marks a significant development in the nation's infrastructure projects initiated by Gambian expertise and resources.
President Barrow highlighted that the foundation stone for this superstructure was laid in 2019 by his Vice President. He emphasized that the project is fully financed by domestic funds, engaging local companies to generate jobs and boost the local economy. This approach aligns with their Green Recovery-focused National Development Plan (2023-2027), named "Yiriwa".
Barrow addressed climate change as a major challenge impacting Banjul with rising sea levels, causing erratic weather patterns that affect agriculture and health systems. He stated that "Yiriwa" advocates for resilient, climate-smart infrastructure across regions.
The new complex is strategically positioned to house the Ministry of Environment's departments and projects, enhancing coordination. Barrow expressed commitment to further infrastructure development across The Gambia, including health centers and roads.
He acknowledged Honourable Minister Rohey John Manjang and her team for their dedication to completing the project. Appreciation was also extended to GAMWORKS Management and GIGO Construction Company for their contributions.
In closing, President Barrow declared the MECCNAR Complex officially open, wishing it success in contributing towards a greener and more prosperous future for The Gambia.
