The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, recently held a meeting with key figures in Ghana's energy sector. The purpose was to discuss strategies for ensuring a reliable and affordable electricity supply across the country.
This meeting took place at the Ministry of Finance and included participation from Chief Executive Officers and senior officials from organizations such as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the Energy Commission, and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
Dr. Ato Forson highlighted the power sector's significance to national development and economic stability. He acknowledged existing challenges but stressed the necessity for government collaboration with industry players to implement reforms that ensure an uninterrupted power supply at competitive tariffs.
John Abdulai Jinapor reiterated his ministry's dedication to ongoing reforms under the Energy Sector Recovery Programme (ESRP). He assured stakeholders of transparent engagement regarding issues affecting the sector.
Discussions focused on improving operational efficiency, establishing cost-reflective yet fair tariffs, enhancing revenue collection, and adjusting policies to address inefficiencies in fuel procurement and power purchase agreements.
The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of the need for coordinated measures to address financial and operational challenges within the sector. Stakeholders committed to working together to stabilize Ghana’s power sector and provide reliable, affordable electricity nationwide.
