The Education, Skills and Employment (ESE) Portfolio has announced the provision of non-compulsory nursery education for children aged three to four years. This initiative will be available for the school year from September 2025 to August 2026.
ESE will reach out to parents or guardians of eligible children born on the island to offer a place and provide details regarding school placement and admission dates.
Parents or guardians of children not born on St Helena are requested to submit certain information in writing to Assistant Director of Schools, Kerry Lawrence. The required details include the child's full name and date of birth, the name and address of the parent or guardian, and contact information such as telephone number and email address if applicable.
Upon receiving all necessary information, parents or guardians will be informed about their child's nursery placement.
While it is recommended that a child attends a school within their residential catchment area, exceptions for non-compulsory schooling may be made. These exceptions depend on whether the requested school's numbers can accommodate additional students or if there is a valid reason like childcare needs.
Parents wishing for their child to attend nursery outside their catchment area must apply in writing to Kerry Lawrence. They should specify which school they prefer and explain why placement outside their catchment area is desired. In such cases, parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from school if needed.
Correspondence related to this matter should be directed to Kerry Lawrence at the Education and Learning Centre in Jamestown or via email at kerry.lawrence@sainthelena.gov.sh.
