Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio has called for innovation and strategic partnerships to enhance food security in Africa. Speaking at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) headquarters in Ibadan, Nigeria, President Bio addressed representatives from across Africa on the importance of coordinated action and political will to tackle food security challenges.
President Bio emphasized that food security is linked to economic growth, health, climate resilience, and national stability. He stated, "I firmly believe that research, innovation, and technology are the forces we must harness to drive Africa forward." He advocated for stronger partnerships and strategic investments as essential components for advancing agricultural development on the continent.
During his visit to Nigeria, President Bio highlighted his administration's commitment to building a sustainable food system in Sierra Leone through initiatives like the Feed Salone Initiative. This initiative aims to transform agriculture in Sierra Leone, where agriculture employs over 70% of the workforce.
Governor of Oyo State, Oluwaseyi Makinde praised President Bio's leadership in agricultural transformation. "The Feed Salone Initiative is one of the best agricultural projects in Africa," Governor Makinde said.
Dr. Simeon Ehui, Director-General of IITA, expressed appreciation for President Bio’s visit and noted that Sierra Leone’s agricultural strategy offers valuable lessons for Africa. "The theme of this program aligns perfectly with our mission," he remarked.
President Bio's engagements in Nigeria reaffirmed his dedication to innovative agricultural solutions across Africa. He urged stakeholders to adopt research-driven strategies and strong partnerships for sustainable food security solutions.
