ECOWAS President reflects on achievements and challenges in end-of-year message

Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, delivered his end-of-year message on December 31, 2024. In his address, Dr. Touray reflected on the achievements and challenges faced by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) over the past year.

He stated: "The year 2024 has been a pivotal one for our community as we have navigated through various challenges while making significant strides in regional integration and development."

Dr. Touray highlighted key initiatives undertaken by ECOWAS to promote peace and stability in the region. He noted that efforts were made to strengthen economic ties among member states and improve infrastructure development.

"We have worked tirelessly to ensure that our member states are better connected through improved transportation networks," he said. "This is crucial for enhancing trade and economic growth within our region."

The president also addressed issues related to security, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among member countries to combat terrorism and other threats.

"Insecurity remains a major concern for us all," Dr. Touray remarked. "We must continue to work together to tackle these challenges head-on."
