The celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will officially begin on April 22, 2025, in Accra, Ghana. This event will be inaugurated by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and attended by ministers and distinguished guests from across the ECOWAS member states. These events are expected to continue throughout the year in all the capital cities of the member states.

President Mahama will initiate the activities planned for the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee. The Accra celebration will feature the presentation of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee logo and theme, alongside various artistic and cultural performances. These performances are intended to recount the history of ECOWAS from its founding in Lagos, Nigeria by the founding fathers, through its reforms, achievements, and successes within member states.

The celebration follows a recommendation from the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government that the anniversary should be marked with prominent visibility in each member state. The ECOWAS Administrative and Financial Committee, meeting virtually in February 2025, validated the program of activities to ensure this recommendation is met.

ECOWAS, established on May 28, 1975, in Lagos, Nigeria, is noted for being one of the best-organized regional economic communities. It boasts several achievements and programs aimed at facilitating regional integration and development among its member states.
