Union flags in Jamestown and at Plantation House have been lowered to half-mast following the death of former President Jimmy Carter. The 39th President of the United States passed away on December 29 at his family home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 100. He is survived by his four children, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Since February 2023, President Carter had been receiving hospice care at his home.

The Union flag will be flown at half-mast across various territories and government buildings in the UK and overseas until 20:00 on December 30.
