Gambian president praises Kenya at 61st independence anniversary

His Excellency Mr. Adama Barrow, the President of The Gambia, delivered a speech at the 61st Independence Anniversary celebration of Kenya, known as Jamhuri Day. Addressing an audience that included Kenyan President Dr. William Ruto and other dignitaries, President Barrow expressed his congratulations to Kenya on behalf of the Gambian people.

Reflecting on Kenya's journey since gaining independence in 1963, Barrow highlighted the leadership of founding fathers like Jomo Kenyatta. He quoted Kenyatta's call for unity: “We must unite to build a new nation,” emphasizing its continued relevance for both Kenya and Africa.

Barrow acknowledged Kenya's role as a significant player in democratic governance and regional security, stating that it remains "an important powerhouse" in Africa’s integration agenda. He praised Kenya's diplomatic efforts in addressing climate change, trade, peace, security, and development issues.

The economic collaboration between Kenya and African nations was noted as an example of Pan-Africanism. Barrow also recognized Kenya’s commitment to peacekeeping missions globally and its fight against terrorism as part of its dedication to stability across Africa.

President Barrow remarked on Kenya’s cultural contributions to African identity through its diverse traditions which promote understanding among ethnic groups. He emphasized the need for collective action to overcome underdevelopment despite abundant resources.

Highlighting shared histories and cultures between The Gambia and Kenya, Barrow called for deeper bilateral relations and mutual learning opportunities. He mentioned potential collaborations in innovation, technology, agriculture, and education.

Barrow concluded by reaffirming commitment to Pan-African ideals such as unity and cooperation. He urged for economic prosperity within peaceful communities while recognizing Kenya's role in Africa’s geopolitical landscape.

The event marked not only a celebration of Kenyan history but also reinforced solidarity among African nations with aspirations for global peace.
