President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia has expressed strong disapproval of the recent surge in violence between Israel and Iran. He voiced concern over the lack of effective political and diplomatic measures to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East.
President Boakai warned that further escalation could lead to significant suffering, loss of life, and widespread destruction not only for Israel and Iran but also for neighboring regions. He called on both Israel and Hamas to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2728, which demands an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages from both sides, and increased humanitarian aid for civilians.
The Liberian President urged all involved parties to engage sincerely in dialogue and mediation through available platforms to achieve a lasting resolution to the conflicts in the region. "The current escalation risks a wider regional, if not global conflict, which could compound the current vexing challenges already faced by humanity, such as the climate crisis, global health issues, and economic instability," he stated.
Boakai emphasized that the United Nations is now facing its most significant challenge of this century. He urged it to take decisive action to prevent a potentially devastating war and find enduring solutions to regional conflicts. "We cannot repeat the errors of the 20th century," he remarked, stressing that peaceful solutions should be pursued instead of risking further global crises through warfare.
