The "Can-boy" Association of Liberia has submitted a petition to the Government of Liberia through Vice President Jeremiah Koung. The petition, presented on March 30, 2024, addresses the recent prohibition on selling combustible petroleum products in jars.

These "Can-boys" are small-scale traders who sell diesel fuel and gasoline in mayonnaise jars on street corners in Monrovia and surrounding areas. An inter-governmental task force recently enforced this prohibition with police conducting raids to halt the illegal trade and clean up the streets.

Bobby Grewe, President of the Association, requested Vice President Koung's intervention regarding their eviction and appealed for additional time to relocate from the streets. He suggested establishing mini-mobile exchanges along streets and other parts of Liberia as a strategy to tackle illegal trade while maintaining city cleanliness.

Vice President Koung commended the Association for peacefully submitting their petition. He acknowledged their economic contribution and assured that their concerns would be reviewed by the government.

Koung advised the group to remain peaceful while the government considers their issues. He emphasized that the task force's goal is not to target struggling Liberians but to ensure environmental safety and cleanliness for citizens.
