H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has highlighted Liberia's recognition as one of the top 10 surfing destinations globally and its selection to host the Africa Tour: Surf to Rise competition. This event will be held in Robertsports, Grand Cape Mount County, from May 23-28, 2024.
The five-day competition marks a significant moment for Liberia's tourism sector. More than 100 participants, including 60 athletes, are expected to attend. The event is part of a broader effort to rebrand Liberia and attract international visitors.
President Boakai plans to submit the Tourism Bill to the Legislature as part of his legislative agenda under the Agriculture Roads, Education Sanitation, and Tourism (AREST) Agenda. He emphasized that this event showcases Liberia's cultural heritage and tourism potential.
The Liberia Surfing Association is organizing the event with Ms. Naquetta Ricks at its helm. She collaborates with Hesta Baker of Unchain Africa and Dr. Clarice Ford-Kulah from Providence Preservation Foundation.
Naquetta Ricks noted that "the African surfing industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry," adding that this event will boost development in sportsmanship among Liberian surfers.
President Boakai invites all Liberians to support this landmark event, highlighting its importance for economic growth through tourism. He encouraged businesses to back initiatives that create jobs and stimulate local economies.
As preparations continue for hosting the Africa Tour: Surf to Rise competition, President Boakai reiterated his administration's commitment to unlocking Liberia's tourism potential through strategic partnerships and proactive measures.
