In October 2023, an open procurement exercise was initiated to find a contractor for designing and building a new prison. This project is part of the UK-funded Economic Development Investment Programme (EDIP).

Three tenders were submitted in response to the procurement. However, after evaluating these tenders, none were selected as they did not meet the specified requirements.

The government has stated that this project aligns with its key Altogether Safer strategic objectives. As such, adjustments are being made to secure a suitable contractor. An open procurement will soon be launched for a design and supervise consultant who will finalize the design and oversee construction works. This process will involve consultation with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ). The construction contract will be advertised again once designs are completed and approved.

Further information will be provided in due course.
