Monrovia, Liberia – On October 16, 2024, the ECOWAS Commission made a donation to enhance human security in Liberia. This initiative was led by Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah, the Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Liberia. The donation is part of ECOWAS's ongoing efforts to address human security challenges in both Liberia and the wider region.
The equipment donated includes two HP laptops, a Canon ink tank printer, and an Epson projector with accessories. These items are valued at $2,300 and will support the operations of the ECO-PHSICM Secretariat in Liberia. The aim is to improve coordination efforts for protecting vulnerable groups such as women, children, displaced persons, and victims of human trafficking.
This contribution fulfills a promise made during an In-Country Technical Facilitation Mission in June 2024. At that time, key stakeholders from the National Center for the Coordination of Response Mechanism (NCCRM) collaborated with ECOWAS to enhance security measures within the country. The newly donated equipment is expected to aid these efforts significantly.
Ambassador Nkrumah emphasized this support's importance at the handover ceremony: “This donation is a step towards operationalizing the ECO-PHSICM in Liberia." She stressed that it would ensure better coordination when tackling human security issues alongside Liberian government officials and other stakeholders.
Mr. Arthur Bestman, Acting Executive Director of NCCRM, expressed gratitude for the donation: "The NCCRM is an ECOWAS initiative," he stated while acknowledging Amb. Nkrumah's consistent backing. Mr. Bestman also requested further assistance from ECOWAS to increase visibility for NCCRM’s work.
ECO-PHSICM aims to boost member states' capabilities through coordinated efforts addressing critical concerns like child protection and gender-based violence while supporting stateless individuals or displaced communities across society sectors.
