President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia engaged in discussions with prominent international business leaders in Rome, Italy, to explore advancements in telecommunications and industrial sectors within Liberia.
In a meeting with Telecel's Chairman and CEO, President Boakai emphasized the need for improvements in Liberia’s telecommunications infrastructure. He advocated for a digital system that is reliable, secure, and capable of operating across multiple networks. "The decisions we make regarding communications must always be in the best interest of the people and the nation," stated President Boakai. He further expressed expectations for significant advancements that would transform Liberia’s digital landscape.
President Boakai directed Telecel's leadership to engage with relevant government agencies to discuss potential investments and collaboration opportunities.
Separately, President Boakai met with Mr. Lakshmi N. Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, who highlighted the company's long-standing commitment to Liberia. Mr. Mittal noted that ArcelorMittal has employed over seven thousand Liberians during its seventeen years of operations in the country. The company’s activities were described as essential to Liberia's future.
Boakai underscored the importance of foreign investment for improving Liberian livelihoods and referred to current investors as “ambassadors” encouraging others to invest in the country. He stressed the necessity of training young Liberians for leadership roles to aid national development.
"Investors like ArcelorMittal are not only contributing to our economy but are helping shape the future of our nation by supporting the training and development of young Liberians," President Boakai remarked.
The meetings concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening investment ties between ArcelorMittal and the Liberian Government.
