State House, Freetown - The Joint Assessment Mission of International Moral Guarantors recently visited President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone. They commended him for his commitment to peace, stability, and national unity.
Madam Hawa Samai, Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, explained that the visit aimed to update on the mission’s assessment regarding the Agreement of National Unity signed a year ago and recommendations made three months prior. The mission engaged with various institutions including security agencies, civil society organizations, and political parties.
Chief Minister Dr. David Sengeh reported progress on the Agreement on National Unity, stating that most resolutions were fulfilled with some nearing completion.
Her Excellency Madam Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, Co-lead of the Joint Assessment Mission and former Vice President of The Gambia, praised President Bio's leadership and political commitment. She assured continued monitoring by moral guarantors.
Insights from Foreign Affairs Minister Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba highlighted President Bio’s dedication to peace processes and his role at the United Nations Security Council.
“We were able to meet with the three arms of government and, as international moral guarantors, we are happy to note that all of them expressed appreciation for your leadership in enabling the independence necessary for them to perform their tasks,” Madam Jallow-Tambajang concluded.
President Bio acknowledged the mission's role in governance and reaffirmed his commitment to national cohesion. He recalled how experiences during war propelled him onto a global stage advocating for peace. “I believe in dialogue and communication," he stated.
