On July 10, 2024, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio formally launched the popularisation and decentralisation of ownership of Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2024-2030 at a ceremony in Moyamba Town. He assured the government’s commitment to prioritising district needs in implementing the plan.
President Bio described the event as a novelty, stating that it "opens a new chapter in our government’s desire to localise our developmental strides and place the key to the country’s sustainable economic growth and development in the hands of the people." He emphasized that this initiative is not just a plan but a promise of progress, prosperity, and a brighter future for all Sierra Leoneans.
He noted that although the Plan was initially launched in January, its most important phase was beginning now with its handover to people across the 16 districts. The President highlighted that this launch underscores localising development efforts, ensuring active engagement from every community and citizen.
"Together, we will identify local priorities, mobilise resources, and steadfastly implement solutions that drive sustainable development in every corner of Sierra Leone," he stated.
United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone, Madam Seraphine Wakana, commended this approach as inclusive and reiterated support for the Plan. Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Madam Kenyeh Ballay, thanked development partners for their support and assured that district priorities were captured during nationwide consultations.
The MTNDP 2024–2030 aims for transformative acceleration in food security, human capital development, and job creation.
