Libassa Ecolodge has launched the Warkolor Jungle Lodge & Forest Reserve in Robertsport, Grand Cape County, Liberia. The event on May 10, 2024, was attended by notable figures such as Catherine Rodriguez, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Liberia; Johnny Tarkpah, representative of the President of Liberia; and Hon. Rudolph J. Merab, Managing Director of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA).

During her speech at the ceremony, Catherine Rodriguez emphasized the U.S. Government’s commitment to conservation and ecotourism. She commended Libassa Ecolodge for its contributions to conservation efforts in the area: “I commend Libassa for many ways they have advanced conservation, including training ecoguards, building new attractions like hiking trails, and using the forest reserve as a safe release site for animals previously endangered.”

The inauguration marks a significant co-investment project aimed at conserving 1,844 hectares of Warkolor forest and underscores private sector investment's role in enhancing Liberian tourism while providing sustainable livelihoods for local communities.

Rudolph Antoune, Co-Founder of Libassa Ecolodge stated that “The Warkolor Jungle Lodge & Reserve is now the largest employer in Robertsport and will also become the principal taxpayer.” The facility includes nine lodges with four suites and five standard lodges, a conference room, swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and a 40kVa solar power system to reduce its carbon footprint.

Rudolph Merab from FDA expressed his approval: “I am glad that Rudolph has started something here that we all have dreamed of; taking our natural beauty and making it open for others to see.”

The ecolodge has created 140 jobs so far with 40 permanent positions filled by young people from Sembehun, Torsor, and Robertsport communities.

Paramount Chief Mr. Haji Sombali conveyed his appreciation during his remarks: “We are happy that it has come to fruition because it will benefit the future of our children.”

The ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting by founders Rudolph and Lisa Antoune alongside dignitaries including Catherine Rodriguez and representatives from the Liberian government.
