St Helena Government joins the global effort to raise awareness about alcohol's effects during Alcohol Awareness Week, scheduled from July 1 to July 7, 2024. This year's campaign theme is "Understanding alcohol harm." The Health Promotion team encourages public participation by discussing how alcohol impacts health and the lives of those around us.

Alcohol's effects extend beyond personal health, influencing families, friends, communities, and society. Issues such as disrupted sleep, strained relationships, and fatalities are among the adverse outcomes. These negative impacts are preventable through informed decisions regarding alcohol consumption.

The Mental Health and Health Promotion team will launch a social media campaign throughout Alcohol Awareness Week. Participants can join the conversation using #AlcoholAwarenessWeek.

Healthy Lifestyle Coach Kaylee Youde commented: “Alcohol Awareness Week isn’t about forcing people to quit drinking; it is about raising awareness and inspiring positive change. We want people in our community to make safe and well-informed decisions about their alcohol intake.”

Participants are encouraged to share their experiences, events, and activities on social media using the hashtag #AlcoholAwarenessWeek. Additionally, promoting and engaging in alcohol-free activities such as sports, arts and crafts, or community service projects is recommended.
