His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, and their delegation have arrived in Seoul for the inaugural 2024 Korea-Africa Summit. The summit, themed "The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity," marks a significant moment in Africa's relationship with South Korea.
Scheduled for June 4-5 in Ilsan and Seoul, the summit will convene African Heads of State and Government, representatives from the African Union, the African Development Bank, and Korean leadership.
Press Secretary Yusuf Keketoma Sandi stated that President Bio's participation underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to fostering international partnerships aimed at promoting sustainable development and inclusive growth. “This gathering is poised to strengthen the ties between Korea and the African continent, focusing on collaborative strategies to address common challenges and opportunities,” he said.
Sandi noted that discussions are expected to cover economic cooperation, technological innovation, and investment in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. For Sierra Leone specifically, this summit presents an opportunity to advocate for increased investment and support for its national development initiatives.
“The President’s participation reflects the country’s proactive approach to international diplomacy and its desire to leverage global partnerships for national growth,” Sandi added.
Additionally, First Lady Fatima Maada Bio's presence underscores the importance of inclusive development. Her involvement emphasizes gender equality and the empowerment of women and children as essential components of sustainable progress.
“Through their participation, Sierra Leone aims to contribute to a future defined by shared growth, sustainability, and solidarity,” Sandi concluded.
