The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) conducted a pivotal national Advocacy Workshop in Benin for the implementation of the ECOWAS Benchmarks and Framework for the Recognition and Equivalence of Certificates from May 28 to 30, 2024, in Cotonou, Benin.

This event brought together key educational stakeholders in Benin under the leadership of the Ministry of Higher Education to discuss and strategize on implementing standardized educational frameworks across West Africa. The workshop emphasized harmonizing educational standards to enhance citizens' mobility and employability across the region.

Highlights included in-depth discussions on the ECOWAS Program on the Recognition and Equivalence of Certificates, exploring various aspects of educational standardization. The main goal was to introduce and facilitate implementing this program while setting the stage for adopting ECOWAS Educational Benchmarks and Framework in Benin. This aims to ensure that educational qualifications are recognized across member states.

The workshop was opened by ECOWAS Resident Representative in Benin Mr. Amadou DIONGUE on behalf of Honorable Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs Prof. Fatou Sow SARR, alongside Koladé Josué AZANDEGBE, representative of the Honorable Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
