Delegates from 10 countries within the British Islands and Mediterranean Region (BIMR) arrived at St Helena on May 19, 2024, to commence their annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) BIMR conference. This marks the first time that CPA St Helena has hosted a CPA conference.
Upon landing, the delegates were greeted by Hon. Cyril Gunnell, President of the CPA St Helena Branch, Secretary Anita Legg, and other elected members. Subsequently, they were escorted to their designated accommodations.
The conference will see delegates engaging in a comprehensive schedule of activities and discussions centered around the theme 'Addressing Challenges to Sustainable Development in Times of Global Uncertainty'. The subjects up for discussion include digital reforms and artificial intelligence, decentralized finance, and climate emergency.
Despite weather-related delays affecting their arrival, it is hoped that the delegates will still have opportunities to partake in St Helena Day celebrations and island tours at their convenience.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday 20 May, with the program set to begin with the CPA Annual General Meeting.
