The Head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Election Observation Mission, Mrs Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, expressed her satisfaction with the smooth organization of the double election in Togo. She visited several polling stations in Lomé and praised the timely opening and peaceful conduct of electoral procedures.
Accompanied by a team of officials, Mrs Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang and her colleagues visited the ECOWAS Situation Room set up for the parliamentary and regional elections. The team is in constant contact with ECOWAS Observers deployed in various regions to monitor the progress of the voting operations in real-time.
The parliamentary and regional elections in Togo saw the participation of 4.2 million voters at over 14,000 polling stations. The ECOWAS Election Observation Mission, consisting of forty Observers, was deployed to Togo in line with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance to support the country in conducting the elections.
The mission includes Ambassadors from Member States, representatives of the ECOWAS Court of Justice and Parliament, Civil Society Organizations, media professionals, and election observation specialists from the West African region.
The peaceful conduct of the voting process in Togo has garnered praise from ECOWAS and showcases the commitment to democratic practices in the region.
