The Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food (RAAF) has been lauded for its ten years of service in advancing agricultural development in West Africa and the Sahel. During the recent meeting of the RAAF Strategic Orientation Committee in Lomé, members had the opportunity to review the agency's progress.
According to the ten-year capitalisation report presented during the meeting, RAAF has made significant strides in promoting agricultural development and food security in the region. Through collaborations with Member States, technical institutions, and development partners, RAAF has facilitated knowledge exchange and resource sharing to address challenges in the agricultural sector.
However, challenges such as human resource management, administrative processes, funding, and donor reliance still need to be addressed. The agency also needs to improve its communication on project results and impacts by securing necessary resources.
In light of the current agricultural shocks in the region, RAAF's role in building a resilient agricultural sector has become even more vital. This will require strengthening partnerships with donors and enhancing collaboration with regional stakeholders to ensure a prosperous and food-secure West Africa.
Reflecting on the past successes and lessons learned, RAAF aims to work towards a common vision of a prosperous and food-secure West Africa. By forging strong partnerships and focusing on impactful actions, the agency seeks to bring lasting change to the populations it serves.
Moreover, with increasing security concerns in the region, RAAF must enhance its visibility and impact by integrating targeted agricultural policies effectively for regional development.
