The Economic Community of West African States met Wednesday in Abuja, Nigeria for the 24th
Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council at the Ambassadorial level.
The gathering was aimed at discussing ways of continuing to support the establishment and support of peace agreements across the region, despite continued terrorist threats from Boko Haram. Commissioner for Infrastructure Antoinette Weeks said the group's activities have made peace difficult to enforce in Mali, northern Nigeria, and the Lake Chad region.
The group also discussed systems for improving security in several member countries, and for improving the security of West African waterways.
A similar meeting between ECOWAS country ministers was held Thursday in Dakar.
