On March 20, 2025, a ceremony was held at the State House to swear in new members of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) Council and to decorate newly promoted General officers to the ranks of Commodore and Brigadier General. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Vice President, Honourable Minister of Defence, other Cabinet Ministers, and members of the media.

The presiding official expressed pleasure in overseeing the ceremony and congratulated the new members on their nominations. "It is reassuring that the process leading to this occasion is in accordance with our Constitutional provisions," they stated.

The importance of working as a unified team was emphasized to ensure committed and competent service on the Armed Forces Council. The council is described as essential for achieving objectives within a responsive and professional defence sector, which is crucial for maintaining peace and stability in The Gambia.

Attendees were urged to work closely with the Ministry of Defence and GAF. Specific advice was given to those promoted: "To whom much is given, much more shall be expected." They were reminded to prioritize national interests over personal ones.

At this pivotal moment in history, loyalty, courage, and professional competence are required from these leaders to preserve peace and defend democracy. Confidence was expressed in their ability to meet these expectations while contributing positively to GAF's success.

Support from the government was assured for achieving goals alongside ongoing institutional reforms. Gratitude was extended to all involved in planning the ceremony and selecting promoted officers.

In conclusion, appreciation was conveyed for accepting new appointments with best wishes for future success.
