The President of the Republic of The Gambia, Mr. Adama Barrow, delivered an inaugural speech at the opening ceremony of Maladah Upper Basic and Senior Secondary School in Kunkujang Jaataya, Kombo North District. The event coincided with the country's 60th Independence Anniversary.
President Barrow emphasized the importance of education as a foundation for growth and development. "As we honour those who fought for our political freedom and probe into the future, we must acknowledge that the greatest gift we can offer our children is education," he stated.
He highlighted the government's commitment to providing quality education to every Gambian child through the establishment of this school. "The establishment of this school, therefore, represents a commitment from my government and a loud pronouncement of our devotion to ensuring that every Gambian child has access to quality education," said President Barrow.
The president called on parents, teachers, community leaders, and students to support the school as part of their community efforts. "It is only through collaborative work and togetherness that we can effectively cultivate an atmosphere where education is valued, celebrated, and fully utilised," he remarked.
Acknowledging those who contributed to making the school project a reality, President Barrow commended the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Regional Education Directorate in Brikama for their dedication. He also recognized non-state volunteers and partners such as the Maladah Foundation led by Mr. Henk from Holland for their contributions.
President Barrow concluded his speech by inviting everyone to support Maladah Upper Basic and Senior Secondary School through various forms of engagement. "Let us come together to ensure that education remains a priority in our community, empowering every child to excel and reshaping the nation for a much better future for all citizens," he urged.
With these words, President Barrow officially launched Maladah Upper Basic and Senior Secondary School.
