As ECOWAS marks its 50th anniversary, the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre is organizing the third edition of the ECOWAS International Marathon in Abuja on March 1, 2025. This event aims to promote key values such as integration, sustainable peace, and socio-economic development through sport.
The marathon serves as a platform for promoting ECOWAS ideals by fostering unity, peace, and cohesion among West African peoples. Open to all nationalities and encouraging participation from both genders, it adopts an inclusive approach designed to unite citizens of West Africa and beyond in solidarity and regional cooperation.
Participants can choose between two race categories: a 5 km race starting at Eagle Square and finishing at the ECOWAS Commission in Asokoro, Abuja; or a 21 km race that starts and ends at the ECOWAS Commission, offering runners an immersive experience in Abuja's heart.
With over $71,000 in prizes available, the marathon attracts elite runners as well as amateur participants. Registration is free via https://www.ecowasabujamarathon.org/.
