President Barrow inaugurates new Star FM and Television building

His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, officially inaugurated the new Star FM and Television building on February 24, 2025. The ceremony took place at Bertil Harding Highway and was attended by various dignitaries, including Honourable Cabinet Ministers, National Assembly Members, and members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps.

President Barrow emphasized the significance of this multi-million-Dalasi project as a milestone for The Gambia's media landscape. "The inauguration of this multi-million-Dalasi milestone project is not just about the unveiling of a new structure; it is visibly a loud structural affirmation of the ongoing transformation of The Gambia’s media sector," he stated.

He reiterated his administration's commitment to fostering an open media environment since 2017. "Since 2017, my administration has prioritised the creation of an open and thriving media environment," President Barrow said. He highlighted the enactment of the Access to Information Act as evidence of dedication to media freedom.

President Barrow praised Star FM and TV for its contributions to Gambian journalism. "As a private media institution, Star FM and TV has significantly contributed to the Gambian media landscape by offering a platform for diverse voices," he remarked.

The President also called upon Star FM and TV management to uphold ethical journalism while embracing innovation. He urged them "to continue striving for excellence" in an evolving industry that had faced suppression in past decades.

In his closing remarks, President Barrow congratulated those involved with Star FM and TV on their achievements. He expressed hope that the new building would serve as a hub for broadcasting excellence in Gambian journalism.
