World leaders send goodwill messages for Gambia's Diamond Jubilee

On February 19, 2025, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia expressed his gratitude to world leaders who participated in the country's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. He thanked Presidents Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea Bissau and Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal for attending the parade in Banjul. Appreciation was also extended to the Presidents of Mauritania and Sierra Leone for sending delegations.

President Barrow acknowledged His Highness Khalipha Muhammad Sanusi II, Emir of Kano, and Her Majesty Queen Olori Tema Tope Enitan-Ofunwusi, Ooni of Ife from Nigeria, along with their delegations. Gratitude was also conveyed to all guests who joined the celebration.

Messages congratulating The Gambia on its 60th Independence Anniversary were received from several dignitaries. These included King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman Al Saud from Saudi Arabia; President Xi Jinping of China; President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Türkiye; and Hussein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

The UAE's President Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Deputy Prime Minister Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent greetings to Gambian leaders. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also extended congratulations.

King Mohammed VI of Morocco expressed a desire to strengthen ties with The Gambia. Rwanda's government wished peace and prosperity for The Gambia while reaffirming bilateral commitments.

From Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent wishes for health and prosperity to President Barrow. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune offered happiness and ongoing prosperity on behalf of Algeria.

Pope Francis extended prayers for peace as The Gambia marked sixty years since independence.
