Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio has reiterated the country's dedication to improving food security and fostering international partnerships. This commitment was emphasized during meetings with Cindy H. McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), and Eng. Noora Sulaiman Saleem Al Fassam, Kuwait's Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investments.
In discussions at the WFP Headquarters, President Bio expressed gratitude for WFP's ongoing support in Sierra Leone's Food Security flagship program. He stressed his administration’s strategy to de-risk agriculture as a means to attract private sector investment. He also called for expanded technical advisory support from WFP to bolster Sierra Leone’s food systems.
Cindy H. McCain praised President Bio's leadership in advancing African food systems and pledged continued WFP support for Sierra Leone’s initiatives. She acknowledged his commitment to enhancing food security standards in the country.
Separately, President Bio met with Eng. Noora Sulaiman Saleem Al Fassam to strengthen bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and Kuwait, focusing on agriculture and food security. President Bio thanked Kuwait for its past support through the Kuwait Fund and highlighted the importance of sustainable investments in agriculture.
Minister Al Fassam affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to cooperation with Sierra Leone, emphasizing collaboration in food security, food systems, and water security. She invited President Bio to visit Kuwait, underscoring their shared goal of enhancing diplomatic ties.
