The Republic of Liberia celebrated its 68th Armed Forces Day with a ceremony at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). The event was attended by His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone, who was recognized for his military background and support.
In his speech, President Boakai acknowledged the AFL's bravery and sacrifices in maintaining national security. He addressed challenges such as inadequate housing and limited budgetary allocations, stating, "As we celebrate this significant day, we must also acknowledge the challenges facing our Armed Forces." He emphasized the government's dedication to resolving these issues.
President Boakai announced several initiatives aimed at improving conditions for the AFL. These include renovating existing barracks to reduce congestion and restoring Todee Military Barracks to its pre-war state. Additionally, he directed assessments for renovations in Harper, Sanniquellie, and Tubmanburg. Strengthening international partnerships is also a priority to enhance the AFL's capabilities.
Commending the AFL's resilience and professionalism despite challenges, President Boakai assured them of continued support from his administration. "To the gallant men and women of the Armed Forces of Liberia, I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your service," he said. He emphasized building a stronger military to safeguard Liberia's future.
The ceremony concluded with a call for unity and ongoing investment in Liberia’s military to ensure peace and stability.
