The St Helena Legislative Council is set to be dissolved on June 30, 2025, with a General Election scheduled for September 3, 2025. This decision follows discussions between Chief Minister Julie Thomas and Governor Nigel Phillips CBE. The dissolution aligns with Section 76 (b) of The St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha Constitution Order, 2009, as amended in 2021. This section mandates the council's dissolution after four years unless dissolved sooner. The current council first met in October 2021, marking October 25, 2025, as the last possible date for dissolution to enable an election.

In preparation for the election, information about the process and how the ministerial system operates will be shared in the weeks leading up to the council's dissolution. Participation in the election requires individuals to be listed in the Register of Electors. Amendments to this register are effective from July 1, 2024, but must be completed by mid-May before its publication.

Residents wishing to add their names can do so using Form A until mid-May. Those absent due to employment, education, training or medical reasons may use Form B if they meet certain criteria regarding their absence from St Helena.

Forms are available on the SHG website and at several locations including the Public Library and Castle Reception. For assistance with these forms, individuals can contact Registration Officer Carol Henry or Assistant Registration Officers Anita Legg, Connie Johnson and Gillian Francis at Castle Jamestown.
