Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana, the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Ghana, welcomed a delegation from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Human Trafficking Secretariat of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection of Ghana on February 3, 2025, in Accra.
The meeting was part of ongoing commitments by ECOWAS and IOM to advance a project aimed at supporting ECOWAS Member States in protecting victims of human trafficking. The primary goal is to enhance the capabilities of national entities to improve reception, care, and reintegration services for victims.
Following discussions, Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana conducted a tour of the facilities dedicated to receiving victims. This visit aimed to assess conditions, identify challenges, and prioritize needs before initiating project activities.
This initiative will be implemented across 12 ECOWAS Member States. It aims to bolster Ghana's national systems for receiving, caring for, and comprehensively protecting human trafficking victims.
