Liberian president congratulates winners of National County Sports Meet

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has expressed his congratulations to the winners and participants of the 2024/2025 National County Sports Meet in Liberia. The tournament, which concluded on February 2, highlighted remarkable talent and sportsmanship in various athletic disciplines.

Lofa County secured championships in both football and basketball, while Grand Bassa County triumphed in kickball. President Boakai inaugurated the tournament on January 12 at Momo Taweh Stadium in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County. He stressed the importance of sports for national unity, youth development, and social cohesion.

The winning teams from Lofa and Grand Bassa visited President Boakai on Sunday evening to present their trophies. In his address to the athletes, President Boakai praised their accomplishments and reiterated his Administration's commitment to promoting sports in Liberia. He urged all Liberians to embrace unity and healthy competition exemplified by the tournament.

Organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National County Sports Meet is Liberia’s leading sporting event. It provides a platform for young athletes to display their skills and inspire future generations. This year's event included football, kickball, and basketball competitions with significant support from sponsors such as Winners Incorporated, APM Terminals, Orange GSM Company among others.

President Boakai affirmed his dedication to fostering Liberia’s sporting culture and ensuring that sports remain a unifying force for the country.
