President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. has arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the African Heads of State Energy Summit. The event, taking place on January 28, 2025, focuses on the Mission 300 initiative aimed at providing electricity access to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.

Mission 300 was launched by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank Group in April 2024. Liberia is one of twelve countries selected as a pilot for this initiative.

Prior to the Summit, Liberia participated in a Ministerial and Partners’ Meeting on January 27, 2025. This meeting involved discussions on achieving Mission 300’s objectives.

During a session focused on Liberia earlier today, officials from Liberia’s Energy and Finance sectors presented their progress and plans for expanding energy access. Presenters included Augustine K. Ngafuan from Finance and Development Planning, Wilmot Paye from Mines and Energy, and Thomas Gonkerwon from the Liberia Electricity Corporation.

Additional contributions were made by Claude J. Katta of LERC, Samuel B. Nagbe of RREA, and Dehpue Zuoh from Economic Management.

The session was attended by international partners such as AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina and World Bank Group President Mr. Ajay Banga. Dr. Adesina praised Liberia’s leadership under President Boakai and highlighted ongoing efforts in governance and transparency.

Dr. Adesina also stressed the importance of international partnerships in supporting Liberia’s energy expansion efforts.

As the Summit continues, President Boakai will engage with other African leaders to discuss energy reforms aiming for universal access to sustainable energy by 2030.

This aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 and Agenda 2063 of the African Union which prioritize energy access for growth and development.

President Boakai's participation emphasizes Liberia's commitment to achieving energy access for all citizens through partnerships and reforms under Mission 300.

In his absence from home affairs during this period, Sylvester Grisgsby will chair Cabinet meetings to ensure smooth government operations.
