ECOWAS President assesses ECOMIG force headquarters in Bakau

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, visited the ECOMIG Force Headquarters in Bakau on January 3, 2025. The purpose of this visit was to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the mission and evaluate the readiness of personnel to fulfill their mandate.

The event began with an inspection of the Quarter Guard by Dr. Touray at the Forecourt of the Force Headquarters. Following this, he received a briefing on operational activities and challenges faced by the mission.

In his remarks, Dr. Touray expressed appreciation for the efforts of the personnel and urged them to remain committed to achieving the ECOMIG mandate. He assured continued support from the Commission for realizing mission objectives and pledged to address challenges raised during his briefing.

Colonel Ndiagne Diouf, Force Commander of ECOMIG, presented a souvenir to Dr. Touray and Miatta Lily French, Head of Mission ECOMIG and Resident Representative of ECOWAS Commission to The Gambia. Colonel Diouf thanked Dr. Touray for his visit and wished him a safe journey back.

The occasion was attended by staff officers from Force Headquarters as well as commanders from Senegalese, Nigerian, and Ghanaian contingents.
