President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. of Liberia has suspended Mr. Matthew Nyanplu from his role as Assistant Minister for Information Services at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism. The suspension is effective immediately and will last indefinitely.
The decision was made due to Mr. Nyanplu's breach of intra-agency communication protocols and failure to adhere to norms of best practice. His actions were deemed unbecoming of a government official, particularly one serving as a spokesman. During his suspension, Mr. Nyanplu will not receive pay and will be subject to an investigation to determine if further action is necessary.
The President emphasized that the suspension was due to Mr. Nyanplu's disregard for established channels rather than the content of the issues he raised.
President Boakai also advised government officials to uphold internal operational procedures and general policy directions within their institutions.
