The ECOWAS Regional Animal Health Centre (RAHC) recently organized the 10th Annual Meeting of Animal Health Networks (RAHN) in Abuja, Nigeria. The event was officially opened by Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development of Nigeria. During his opening remarks, he urged Chief Veterinary Officers from ECOWAS Member States and other participants to achieve meaningful results that would enhance veterinary services in the region.
Her Excellency Madam Massandje Toure-Litse, the ECOWAS Commissioner of Economic Affairs and Agriculture, was represented by Dr. Vivian Iwar, Executive Director of RAHC. This year's meeting focused on the theme "Human and financial resources as weak links in the performance of Veterinary Services in West Africa: what prospects?"
Participants discussed issues related to veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals in the region, examining a study on these matters. They also addressed governance challenges within veterinary services.
The discussions aim to inform decision-makers and stakeholders about declining human resources for veterinary services delivery within ECOWAS.
