Sierra Leone hosts state dinner for Liberian president's official visit

His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Bio hosted a state dinner to honor the official visit of His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai Sr., President of Liberia, to Sierra Leone. The event took place at State Lodge in Freetown on November 19, 2024.

During the dinner, President Bio proposed a toast and expressed his pleasure in welcoming President Boakai. He described him as "an elder brother and a cherished member of the Sierra Leonean family," adding, “I consider President Boakai as one of us.”

President Bio also spoke about the historical and cultural connections between Sierra Leone and Liberia. He acknowledged the challenges both nations have faced and emphasized their shared commitment to achieving success together. “We are two peoples but one country, and both nations have enjoyed great bilateral relations,” he stated.

In his response, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai Sr. expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by President Bio and the people of Sierra Leone. He fondly recalled his experiences in Sierra Leone, referring to it as his home: “I came to a country I call home. Our countries share a deep friendship, not just a relationship,” he said.

The state dinner highlighted the enduring bonds of kinship and cooperation between Sierra Leone and Liberia while reinforcing their dedication to regional unity.
