The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has formalized a Memorandum of Academic Agreement with the Africa Centre for Strategic Studies (ACSS) in Washington D.C. The signing ceremony took place on November 12, 2024, led by H.E. Damtien L. Tchinchibidja, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission.
Colonel (ret) Dan Hampton, Acting Director of ACSS, emphasized the importance of this agreement in enhancing collaboration and partnership between ECOWAS and ACSS. The agreement aims to foster research initiatives that address conflict drivers with a focus on human rights.
Vice President Tchinchibidja expressed enthusiasm about working with ACSS on capacity building and strategic leadership. She noted that the collaboration would involve exchanging ideas on best practices and utilizing new approaches, models, and technologies for data collection and forecasting. This effort will particularly support Early Warning systems but extend beyond them as well.
The Vice President was joined by Ambassador Kinza Jawara-Njai and other officials from the ECOWAS Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations in New York during the ceremony.
