President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., recently discussed governance issues in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The topics included corruption, food security, impunity, drug abuse, and the future of Liberia's youth.

In the interview, President Boakai highlighted the need to change perceptions of government as a means for personal gain. He stated his commitment to dismissing any officials involved in misuse of public resources, describing corruption as a major issue facing Liberia.

Boakai expressed his belief that Liberia is not inherently poor but is well-endowed. He stressed the importance of citizens understanding their responsibilities to improve the country's image regarding poverty and corruption.

The President mentioned his careful approach to appointing government officials as part of his strategy to combat corruption. He referenced his long career in public service without corruption allegations as an example for others.

Discussing agriculture, Boakai reiterated that Liberia has the potential to be a global food supplier if its resources are properly managed. He noted that while fertile land could address food insecurity, it requires tackling corruption first.

On war crimes accountability, President Boakai emphasized that those responsible for serious crimes should face justice and acknowledge their actions to end impunity and foster reconciliation.
